NYC Restaurant Week is Here

NYC Restaurant Week is one of our favorite times of the year and is the most anticipated event for New Yorkers. It allows us to dine at NYC’s best restaurants twice a year for jaw-dropping bargain prices. Restaurants who participate in the promotion offer three-course prix-fixe menus both for lunch and dinner.

The event starts on January 22 and ends on February 9, and reservations went live earlier this week, with a lot of restaurants already sold out of seats. You shouldn’t walk-in and think you can get in; it’s advised that you make reservations using the program’s sponsor, OpenTable, as getting a table is really tough during the event.

350 restaurants are participating, so you’ll likely find some of the city’s hottest or newest dining spots for a fraction of the price. The three-course prix-fixe menu lunch menu is only $29 per person and $42 per person for dinner, not including beverages, gratuities and taxes. Here we’ve gathered a collection of eleven newcomers, hot spots, the hardest restaurants to get into, as well as well-heeled staples that help make New York City the world’s destination spot for culinary cuisine.  

1. Momofuku Nishi

You can’t go wrong with the inimitable David Chang, so checking out Nishi, the latest from Chang’s empire, is a must, especially since it’s so expensive outside of RW2018. Italian staples are on the menu here, and the space is sophisticated and relaxed at the same time.

2. The Breslin at the Ace Hotel

For high-end haute comfort food, this British gastropub is from the owners who brought you the Michelin-starred The Spotted Pig, so you know it’s going to be good. The famous exec chef April Bloomfield brings us elevated and hearty meat-centric fare, from braised shin of beef to stuffed pig’s foot.

3. Cafe Boulud

Daniel Boulud’s UES decadent mainstay is still growing strong after many years, serving up high-end French fare for grown-ups in a well-appointed dining room featuring elegant place settings and stunning murals of the French countryside.

4. Loring Place

Chef Dan Kluger, famous for his forward fare dishes at ABC Kitchen, is now behind Loring Place in the heart of Greenwich Village. The menu consists of a large number of handmade pasta, wood-grilled dishes, pizza served in small or shareable plates. The serene feel of Loring is from the gray-stained oak and whitewashed brick walls.

5. Ortzi by Jose Garces

Who says you can’t get great, sophisticated food smack-dab in midtown NY? Ortzi proves you can do it. After all, its helmed by James Beard award-winning chef Jose Garces. The restaurant is located in the lobby of NYC’s newest hotel, LUMA Hotel Times Square, and offers cuisine of the Basque country and Northern Spain. Ortzi gets packed, so there’s also a more casual place offering the same menu as the dining room.

6. The NoMad Restaurant

Since opening up in 2012, the NoMad remains a stylish trendsetter with impeccable service and soaring, elegant interiors. This is a collaboration from Eleven Madison Park alum Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, and is one of those hotly anticipated restaurants that may live on because of its enormous amount of publicity and stellar reviews from the press, food bloggers and, above all, the New York Times‘ Florence Fabricant. If you want to go here during RW2018, note that reservations are hard to come by all year long, and getting a table now might be very tough.

7. Gramercy Tavern

Seasonal American cuisine, an upscale “country” dining room, the attention to detail, and impeccable service by the staff make Gramercy Tavern, open for 23 years, one of New York’s most important restaurants in the Flatiron district. Gramercy is part of Danny Meyer’s empire, and you won’t be disappointed since it has garnered eight James Beard Awards including Outstanding Restaurant and Best Chef NYC. 

8. Beauty & Essex

Tucked away behind a functioning pawn shop, the very hip Lower East Side Beauty & Essex has been a hard ticket to come by since its opening. Crystal chandeliers and banquet seating make for an elegant atmosphere and to this day it is widely regarded as one of the city’s most beautiful restaurants that serves creative American fare and sumptuous cocktails. Celeb chef Chris Santo runs Beauty & Essex.

9. La Pecora Bianca NoMad

A brand-new Italian-inspired eatery from restauranteur Mark Barak of Claudette serves up house-made pasta made with organic flours, as well as farm-fresh seasonal veggies and pasture-raised meat from the local Hudson Valley area. Housed within the historic St. James building, the décor is white-toned, with communal tables and two bars as well as green chairs that give this hot new place a pop of color.

10. Suzuki

A traditional Japanese kaiseki tasting menu in a modern and sleek environment makes this new Theater District a great place to check out during RW2018. The menu only uses the freshest ingredients from the markets. Sashimi fish complement the Satsuki sushi bar, and the ever-revolving menu matches the seasons, so you know everything has just been chopped and snipped the night you arrive. Suzuki just received a Michelin star, so ressies are hard to come by.

11. Rice & Gold

Located on the ground floor of the 50 Bowery Hotel, Rice & Gold features Asian American such as dim sum, eclectic shareable plates and rice and noodle dishes for dinner. It also celebrates the cuisine of our multi-faceted, multi-cultural modern world with influences from China, the Philippines, Mexico, Bangladesh, Iran, Jamaica and India.
